Hello All!
We've been on vacation/work slowdown for most of the summer but we're back now and getting ready for fall, and other exciting things to come... namely, the new art show by Jesse Purcell going up in a couple days! We are extremely excited to have Jesse bring his stuff 'round because he is not only a friend, but one of our very favourite screenprinting artists (admittedly, we have many favourites, but they are all so very good!). Please drop round Thursday night for a drink and gander. Here's some more info on the show:
Jesse Purcell is a Montreal silkscreen artist who years ago escaped from the Concordia Fine Arts program. Since then he’s been drawing and screening his way to notoriety in Montreal’s poster and design communities. He is ever so humble about his accomplishments, the most obvious one being his fantastic work on the Morales boutique (just down the road from General 54). He was specially commissioned to decorate the store’s exterior as well as create one-of-a-kind original wallpaper featuring various odyshaped creatures. We weren’t able to sneak into his studio before he left for a camping trip in the Gaspe (lucky guy!), but his latest batch of silkscreened creations will inevitably showcase his usually unusual sense of the anthropomorphic with a mix of original and collaged imagery. By his own descripition, this exhibit will be “very colourful”. Jesse Purcell’s work will be on display at General 54 from September 4th until October 7th.
The vernissage is Thursday September 6th starting at 7pm with booze, cupcakes and disco by DJ Roxy Moron. For this one night only, everything in the store will be 10% off. So bring your dollars, and get arty.
